Every day, I learn from my colleagues and the people and environment around me. I make mistakes and I remind myself that they are a great opportunity to learn and be better. My goal is to continuously strive to improve through learning.
While my APARs list specific, measurable professional goals for each year, I would like to acknowledge how much of my development happens through work itself. Reflecting on the past four years at TRU, I learnt so much from my colleagues. Our team of learning designers is an incredible community of practice with a wealth of experience. People in Open Learning and larger TRU community have been very generous with sharing their knowledge so that I could learn.
Students and Community
Most of my professional goals are student focused. Since I currently don’t teach, I make sure I continue to work with students through a number of service initiatives, paying close attention to students’ educational experiences. I attend workshops and conferences that focus on online learning, best practices in learning design, student experience and access. I direct a lot of my energy to Open Educational Practices (OEP) advocacy, through workshops and conference presentations.
I feel deeply about Canada’s truth and reconciliation calls to action. I pursue every opportunity to learn from the Secwépemc community and be an ally, through volunteerism and service. I also attend TRU’s professional development sessions related to curriculum decolonization.
